The Kids for a Quid scheme proved a hit at the 2024 YONEX All England Open with nearly 4,000 children taking the opportunity to witness the world-class action in Birmingham.
The scheme represents a renewed commitment to engaging young people in all things badminton, a core strand of Badminton England’s new ten-year strategy – and presented a unique opportunity for the next generation of badminton to celebrate the most prestigious date in the badminton calendar in the Championship’s 125th anniversary year.
Among this year’s perks for attendees was the chance to take part in a Q&A and serve challenge session with home favourites Marcus Ellis and Lauren Smith, who were involved in the mixed doubles draw.
Schoolchildren took the opportunity to ask the Olympians about their pre-match routines and career highlights as well as practical questions around nutrition.
