In Crunch Time, Boston College’s Defense and Goaltending Keeps Proving Just as Good as the Offense

SAINT PAUL, Minn. Each year, prior to Boston College’s first game of the season, Chaplain Father Tony hosts mass for the hockey team.
From that mass, the team’s motto was born.
“Shields up was kind of a metaphor for back when the Romans used to fight. They would hold their shields up instead of their swords out. They were protecting each other first, rather than individual,” Eamon Powell said.
Thursday, the Eagles had both their shields and swords out defeating Michigan 4-0 to advance to the National Championship on Saturday against Denver.
