If each college hockey team has a storyline in the 2024-25 season, Cornell’s seems almost too obvious — its quest, with one of its deepest rosters in years, to move past the early rounds of the NCAA tournament, and give legendary head coach Mike Schafer at least a realistic shot at the national championship ahead of his planned retirement next summer.
The reality, though, is that while plot twists are inevitable, nothing is scripted for anyone. And for the Big Red, a prodigious opening weekend matchup against North Dakota represented only its first chapter.
