Most of the leading sires in North America have one of those days. You know, where their offspring win the big stakes races in a particular card.
That was the case Dec. 1 at Del Mar for Not This Time . Ranked 13th on the General Sires List for North America, Not This Time’s children picked up the wins in the $300,000 Matriarch Stakes (G1T) and the $100,000 Cecil B. DeMille Stakes (G3T).
The former was taken by Sacred Wish , who rallied down the stretch to outlast the morning-line favorites. The latter was won in gate-to-wire fashion by 2-year-old gelding Clock Tower .
This from a sire who had two graded stakes to his credit—both as a 2-year-old—and his best win was in the Iroquois Stakes (G3). In four career starts (2-1-0), Not This Time banked $454,000, with $340,000 coming when a neck short of glory in the 2017 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1).
