Providence coach Nate Leaman’s example is a big reason why Kris Mayotte is leading the Tigers program.
And for the first time, he may regret it.
The former Friars’ assistant and Colorado College coach takes on his friend and mentor for a nonconference series this weekend in Rhode Island.
Mayotte learned a lot about hockey and coaching from Leaman.
He affected Mayotte’s personal development the most, aside from his parents, beginning when the Pittsburgh native was a goalie at a rebuilding Union College program for the then-first-time coach Leaman’s first three seasons in Schenectady, N.Y. (2003-06). That experience served Mayotte well when he took over at CC in 2021.
