Alaska-Fairbanks junior forward Chase Dafoe remembers when reality hit.
Traveling for hockey was nothing new. From the time he was a kid in British Columbia skating on an outdoor rink built by his dad, to playing college hockey for Providence, the road came with the territory.
But there was something different when he went on his first road trip with the Nanooks last season. When the team arrived at the hotel in Houghton, Michigan, after nearly 24 hours of traveling, Dafoe remembers the way his roommate, an upperclassman, unpacked his clothes.
