The Indian team took the field wearing black armbands on the second day of the fourth Test against Australia in Melbourne to pay respect to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh who passed away aged 92 on Thursday.
Manmohan served as the head of State from 2004 to 2014. He is credited for his ‘cricket diplomacy’ which tried to revive political ties between India and Pakistan through the sport.
Australia started the day at 311 for six with Steve Smith and Pat Cummins batting for the home team.
Earlier this series, Australia was seen sporting black armbands to mark the 10th death anniversary of former cricketer Phil Hughes.
