Inclement weather in Hot Springs, Ark., led to the early cancellation of Oaklawn Park‘s Dec. 28 card. The track conducted just one race.
The day’s opener, scheduled for 12:30 p.m. CT, was delayed due to thunderstorms and lightning in the area and finally broke from the gate at 1:12 p.m. Following that race and with the continuation of storms, track officials declared that the remainder of the 10-race card would be canceled.
“Due to continuing weather and out of the abundance of caution of our equine athletes and human athletes, Oaklawn has decided to cancel today’s racing card,” the track said in a post on their X account.
Featured on the Saturday card was the $175,000 Tinsel Stakes for older horses, which will now be held Jan. 5. Racing at Oaklawn is scheduled to resume with an all 2-year-old 10-race card Dec. 29, featuring the $175,000 Year’s End Stakes for 2-year-old fillies.
