Faces Canada for Top Seed in Group on New Year’s Eve

Team USA lost to Finland on Sunday, 4-3, in overtime for its first loss of this year’s World Junior Championship in three preliminary round games.
The U.S. will close out its preliminary round play with a game Tuesday, New Year’s Eve, in Ottawa against Canada. The game airs live at 8 p.m. (ET) on NHL Network. The winner of that game will win Group A. The top seed in Group A will play the fourth-place team (of 5) in Group B in the medal round quarterfinals.
Among the goal scorers for Team USA were Boston University’s Cole Hutson and Minnesota’s Brodie Ziemer. Michigan State’s Trey Augustine made 40 saves, but Finland scored a little over one minute 1:46 into the overtime to win it.
