CHN Staff Report
Minnesota Duluth senior Will Francis announced today that his leukemia has returned. It was discovered during a routine checkup in October.
Francis was first diagnosed in 2020. He played five games for UMD as a freshman in 2021-22, then played 28 games the next season, before being diagnosed with a relapse in August 2023. He missed basically all of last season.
Francis played in three games this season before the latest discovery.
“This was shocking given how I was progressing throughout the fall and I had no symptoms,” Francis said in a statement. “The disease was very minimal and I am currently getting treatments now outside of Minnesota. I plan to be back with the team and on campus in February.”
