There was a debate among college coaches last week after Noah Powell left Ohio State and Christian Humphreys left Michigan for the OHL.
The debate centered on the language of the NCAA’s November proposal to award eligibility to CHL players. Some coaches maintained that these players would be ineligible to return to college hockey because there was a belief that those players were only able to participate with CHL teams before their initial full-time enrollment.
However, that language only applies to professional teams. Players are eligible to participate with professional teams before their initial full-time enrollment, provided they do not receive compensation that exceeds the cost of participation.
