Bianca Andreescu is recovering from an emergency appendectomy—and aiming for a clay-court comeback in the spring.
The 2019 US Open champion announced her sudden surgery on social media. Surgery has forced Andreescu out of the Merida Open in Mexico later this month.

A creative and versatile player, Andreescu has been plagued by an assortment of injuries in recent years. The 2019 Indian Wells champion has not competed since her run to the Tokyo quarterfinals last October, falling to Katie Boulter, 6-2, 6-1.
Now, the 130th-ranked Canadian’s comeback will have to wait until spring as she recovers from surgery.
