A little late to do the first one of these for this year, but that’s because this is probably the most drama-free Pairwise we’ve ever seen. And that’s despite potentially seven Hockey East teams making the NCAA Tournament.
Over the years, as I’ve written about before, the Pairwise has become less and less dramatic, because a lot of the weirdness we used to see has been taken out of the system. The criteria more or less just comes down to RPI (Ratings Percentage Index) these days, with rare exceptions.
There has been some behind-the-scenes work on replacing the RPI with something even less prone to oddities, but that hasn’t happened yet. The RPI, as it stands, is OK enough.
