About a month ago, it seemed like it was in the bag.
Michigan State was playing some dominant hockey, sweeping Minnesota and Wisconsin to build its lead atop the Big Ten standings. It put the Spartans in a prime position to win their second straight Big Ten regular-season title and clinch a spot in the conference semifinals.
However, things have gone awry ever since it was announced that captain Red Savage would be out for the rest of the season with an upper-body injury. They split weekend sets against Ohio State and Michigan, defeating the Wolverines in the annual ‘Duel in the D’ battle at Little Caesars Arena a couple of weeks…
