Mike Schafer, in his final season as head coach at Cornell after 30 seasons, may be sidelined for what is potentially his final game.
Schafer was hit in the head with a puck during Friday’s loss at Union, a game that knocked the Big Red out of contention for a top-four bye spot in the ECAC playoffs. He finished coaching that game, but was not behind the bench for the team’s Saturday game at Rensselaer.
Cornell, the No. 6 seed, hosts No. 11 Yale on Saturday in a single-elimination ECAC First Round playoff game. The winner advances to the best-of-3 quarterfinals.
Schafer said this week on a local radio show that he is still going through concussion protocol, and was questionable to be behind the bench for the Yale game. He…
