SUNY New Paltz traveled to Boston to take on the number ten ranked Wentworth. Prior to the match the Hawks had an up and down season with a record of 9-9. Eight of those losses came to the top 20 NCAA Division III opponents and Division II Menlo. Prior to the match against Wentworth the Hawks had three conference UVC wins against Hobart, Elmira and MIT. Wentworth came into the match with a 14-4 record and a perfect 6-0 in the Great Northeast conference play.
The match went the distance with New Paltz coming out on top in five (25-21, 16-25, 25-22, 25-21, 15-11). Statistically both teams were close with Wentworth posting 54 kills, 22 errors, 124 attempts, 50 assists, six aces, 10.5 blocks and 70.5 points in the match.
