Ben Lane and Sean Vendy fought a fierce battle but were ultimately unable to reach the final four at the European Championships.
It could not have been closer if they tried, as the British duo fell 23-21 20-22 22-20 to in-form Eloi Adam and Leo Rossi of France.
With echoes of their 21-19 21-18 victory over the same pair at last year’s event, it was a difficult hand to be dealt for the English pair who fought valiantly in Denmark.
Lane and Vendy saw off Czechia’s Jiri and Ondrej Kral 21-19 21-8 to reach the quarter-final stage, having had a bye into the round of 16.
However, they were unable to progress to the last four after a enthralling battle with the eighth seeds, who eventually emerged victorious after 74 minutes on court.
Callum Hemming and Ethan Van Leeuwen also made it to the last eight after producing two solid performances in the previous rounds.
