Continuing recovery from a back injury, Caroline Garcia has withdrawn from the Mutua Madrid Open.
The Mutua Madrid Open is set for April 21st-May 4th at the Caja Magica.
Two-time French Open doubles champion Garcia announced on social media treatment and recovery from the back injury prevents her from playing Madrid. Garcia, whose status for next month’s WTA 1000 tournament in Rome is uncertain, said her “main goal is to arrive strong and healthy for Roland Garros.”
The clay-court Grand Slam begins on May 25th in Paris.
“After more tests on my back, it’s clear I won’t be able to play in Madrid,” Garcia wrote in an Instagram post. “I need to take some time for treatment and recovery. I’ll do everything I can to be ready for Rome, but the main goal is to arrive strong and healthy for Roland Garros.
