A class action lawsuit has been filed by a Canadian junior player Rylan Masterson against the NCAA and numerous universities, alleging anti-trust violations for preventing him from participating in college hockey after previously being in Major Junior.
Masterson is currently playing for Fort Erie of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League, a junior A league whose players do generally retain NCAA eligibility. But Masterson, now 19, played two exhibition games in 2022 for Windsor of the OHL.
Masterson has sued the NCAA plus Cansius, Niagara, RIT, Boston College, Boston University, Denver, Quinnipiac, Note Dame, Stonehill and St. Thomas. He is seeking to have his NCAA eligibility restored.
