A 75-Year Legacy and Immeasurable Contribution to College Hockey

When John (Jack) Riley took over as head coach at Army in 1950, no one could have foreseen what the hiring would mean for not only the hockey program, but the Riley family for years to come.
Riley arrived at a time when Army athletics was a big deal in the grand scheme of things, and the country was still rebuilding following World War II, having lost many good young men from the academy. He spent the next 36 seasons at West Point, winning the Spencer Penrose Award as the NCAA Coach of the Year in 1957 and 1960. Riley was also awarded the Lester Patrick award in 1986 for his contribution to ice hockey in the United States.
