Mike Schafer’s coaching career will continue at least one more week. Cornell, tied 1-1 entering the third period, scored four straight to defeat Yale, 5-1, in the single-elimination ECAC First Round game.
Schafer, who is retiring after 30 seasons behind the Cornell bench, will take his team a few miles up the road to Colgate next weekend for a best-of-3 quarterfinal series. It will be the first time Cornell has ever played a playoff game at Colgate. Either way, this was his last time coaching a game at beloved Lynah Rink, where he played from 1982-86.
