Second-Longest Tenured Coach at One School in College Hockey History

Rick Gotkin, who just completed his 37th season behind the bench at Mercyhurst, announced today that the 2025-26 season will be his last. He’s the only head coach in program history, having started in 1988.
Mercyhurst was a dominant program in the early years of MAAC and Atlantic Hockey, going to three NCAA Tournaments as league postseason champion. The Lakers also won Atlantic Hockey regular-season championships as recently as 2014 and 2018.
The last few seasons, however, have been difficult, with a number of top players, including two prominent goaltenders, transferring to Big Ten schools, among other things. Mercyhurst just recently finished a 4-27-1…
