Hobey Baker Award finalist Will Smith became the first of Boston College’s vaunted freshman trio of NHL first-rounders to sign a pro contract. Smith, who was selected fourth overall by the Sharks in the 2023 NHL Draft, signed a three-year deal.
“We wish Will all the best as he starts his professional career,” BC coach Greg Brown said. “He had an outstanding season for the Eagles and we look forward to watching him compete at the next level.”
Fellow freshman Ryan Leonard previously said he’d stay at BC, though that can change. The other of the trio, Gabe Perreault, is also still with the Eagles. Sophomore CHN Player of the Year Cutter Gauthier signed with Anaheim right after the team’s loss in the national championship game.
