House v. NCAA Settlement Will Further the Gap Between The Rich and Poor in College Hockey

The NCAA and the Power 5 (now 4, really) conferences are moving forward with a $2.7 billion settlement that will allow the richest schools in college sports to share revenue with their players (i.e. pay them).
Judge Claudia Wilken, who is presiding over the case, still has to approve the settlement. That process will take months, and that’s if she essentially rubber stamps it. It could take even longer.
There is also another antitrust case — Fontenot v. NCAA — that is not included in this settlement.
What does it mean for college hockey?
Well, that remains to be seen.
